Principal Engineering Manager – Replacement Nuclear Warhead Programme (AWE)

The aim of this role is to head AWE’s maintenance and reliability teams that support maintaining the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent through a highly classified and mission-critical programme. The role will be based at AWE Aldermaston, with minimal consideration for remote working owing to security reasons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the provision of maintenance and engineering services, ensuring plant/facility availability.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, both internal and external, in support of aligning programme delivery with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Communicate the technical complexities to differing audiences and legislate as applicable to engineering safety.
  • Maintain standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in engineering (ideally Chartered status) or equivalent proven experience.
  • Significant experience in leading engineering teams through the complete project life cycle in manufacturing/research environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Able to thrive in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
